Frequently Asked Questions

How often should my bow be rehaired?

Most people have their bow rehaired once or twice a year. Sometimes it is necessary to rehair the bow with drastic seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. When you notice your bow hairs receding, or hairs that have been snapped, it’s time to rehair your bow.

How often should I change my strings?

Strings should be changed yearly at minimum, but if you’re a frequent player, they may need to be changed more often (around every 6 months). Strings that are turning brown or green should be replaced as soon as possible.

What size instrument should I get?

Depending on your age and height, you’ll require a certain size instrument. If you have a teacher, they can tell you which size you may need, but you can come into the shop at any time to be measured as well.

Buy or Rent?

If you know you are going to stick with one instrument for more than 18 months, purchase may be a better option. Keep in mind that we offer trade in program with our instruments, as well as the amount of credit you may have accumulated.

What temperature and humidity should my instrument be kept at?

Generally, it’s a good idea to keep your stringed instrument at 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit, with a relative humidity of 40-60%.
